FRISCO, Texas (105.3 The Fan) -- The Dallas Cowboys attempted to acquire free agent safety Earl Thomas multiple times in 2018, but a deal never crossed the finish line. Thomas ultimately broke his leg a week after intercepting Dak Prescott twice in Week 3, ending his season and trade discussions between the Cowboys and the Seattle Seahawks.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones will have another chance to bring Thomas aboard this offseason, barring the Seahawks placing the franchise tag on him.

Sources close to the situation tell 105.3 The Fan that the Cowboys have already begun in-house discussions on how to best pursue the All-Pro safety.

Jones won't confirm that -- and can't, until the NFL free agency window opens on March 13. Jones was asked Tuesday, while overseeing a boxing promotion event at AT&T Stadium, about the Cowboys having discussions about the safety position in free agency. "Yes," he said. "But that's about all I'll say.''

Thomas, who was the subject of the Cowboys pursuit a year ago during draft weekend, recently moved his family to Austin, as 105.3 The Fan first reported.

It doesn't guarantee the Texas native and former Longhorns star will be joining the Cowboys or Houston Texans next season, but it was noteworthy. Thomas' mansion in Bellevue, Wash., is not yet up for sale.

But along with that move, and independent of anything Jones says, we can report that a flirtation between the two is coming. Book it.
