(WFAN) -- The Giants expect to be without star running back Saquon Barkley for several weeks, a report said Monday.

Barkley suffered a high right ankle sprain late in the second quarter of the Giants' Week 3 game at Tampa Bay on a hit by Buccaneers safety Mike Edwards after catching a pass from Daniel Jones. Barkley returned to the sideline in the second half with a walking boot and crutches.

ESPN's Adam Schefter says that Barkley is expected to miss at least a month:

“I’m not out for the season,” Barkley told reporters after Sunday's 32-31 come-from-behind win. “I’m going to do whatever I can to get back as quickly as possible. Not for myself, but for my team. That’s what I continue to think about.”

Barkley has rushed for 237 yards and a touchdown this season. He also has 11 catches for 74 yards.

Wayne Gallman is Barkley's top backup. He had 13 yards on five carries Sunday.
