DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) -- The Dallas Cowboys have their sights set on signing free-agent safety Earl Thomas to be the anchor of their secondary, and through several reports and social media posts over the past year, we know Thomas would like to end up with a star on his helmet.

The latest, via The Athletic: Richard Sherman, a former teammate of Thomas from the Seattle Seahawks, says he's recruiting the All-Pro to join him with the San Francisco 49ers, but he acknowledges the Cowboys are in the driver's seat.

Last week, we reported the Cowboys had already begun in-house discussions on how to best pursue Thomas. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones was asked whether the Cowboys had discussed how to address the safety position in free agency: "Yes. But that's about all I'll say.''

Thomas, whom the Cowboys pursued via trade last year during draft weekend, recently moved his family to Austin, Texas, as 105.3 The Fan first reported.
