President Donald Trump has weighed in on the Redskins name controversy, tweeting his support for the name on Monday.
"They name teams out of STRENGTH, not weakness, but now the Washington Redskins & Cleveland Indians, two fabled sports franchises, look like they are going to be changing their names in order to be politically correct," the president tweeted. "Indians, like Elizabeth Warren, must be very angry right now!"

July 6, 2020 Consider President Trump diametrically opposed to his White House predecessor on the issue. In Oct. 2013, President Barack Obama said in an interview with the Associated Press that, if he owned the Washington Redskins, he would "think about changing" the name.
"I don't know whether our attachment to a particular name should override the real legitimate concerns that people have about these things," Obama said, also noting that team names like Redskins offend "a sizable group of people."
