The Red Sox will look a little different this Patriots' Day weekend.
The team unveiled new "City Connect" uniforms that they will be wearing for their games on April 17 and 18 against the White Sox that "honor the spirit of Patriots' Day weekend" with yellow and blue colors inspired by the Boston Marathon and "Boston" written across the front in a style that pays tribute to the Boylston Street finish line.
“We viewed the City Connect collaboration with Nike as an opportunity to celebrate the spirit of a weekend that is uniquely Boston,” said Red Sox EVP/CMO Adam Grossman in a statement. “The departure from our traditional style pays homage to that iconic weekend, and recognizes Boston’s boldness, culture and creativity.”
The Red Sox will still wear their white "B Strong" jerseys on Patriots' Day itself on Monday, April 19. They have worn those jerseys annually since the Marathon bombing in 2013.
The Red Sox will be the first of seven teams to debut "City Connect" edition uniforms this season. In their statement, the Red Sox say they "worked with several creatives and cultural influencers from Boston and the region who embody the boldness of the design."
"The group includes local artist Rob Gibbs, co-founder and director at Artists For Humanity; Marlene Marmolejos, motion designer/director; Jenny Nguyen, stylist, model and community leader; Cliff Notez, musician, filmmaker and multi-digital artist; The SuperSmashBroz, Muyi and Noma Okundaye, both DJ’s/music producers; Christopher Salako, freelance creative director/stylist; and Drew White, creative designer for Bodega. Their stories will be featured on Red Sox social media channels over the next ten days leading up to the on field uniform debut."
