As usual, 49ers assistant coaches are getting attention for promotions elsewhere. Defensive coordinator Steve Wilks received a head coaching interview from the Los Angeles Chargers last week, and now, there are at least two more coaches being interviewed.
According to Nick Underhill of the NOF (New Orleans Football) Network, the New Orleans Saints have interviewed both 49ers QB coach Brian Griese and offensive passing game specialist Klint Kubiak for their vacant offensive coordinator job.
Griese has been with the 49ers since 2022, after a stint with ESPN in the broadcasting booth. He and Brock Purdy have raved about each other in the last two years.
What's particularly interesting is that Griese works with Purdy in the QB room alongside Klay Kubiak, the assistant quarterbacks coach.
Klint Kubiak, meanwhile, took over for his father, Gary, as offensive coordinator for the Minnesota Vikings in 2021 before spending 2022 with the Denver Broncos as their quarterbacks coach.
It should be noted that there is a third Kubiak brother, Klein, who is a national scout for the Dallas Cowboys.
