Following the loss of starting cornerback Justin Verrett to a torn ACL in their season opener, the San Francisco 49ers signed veteran free agent Dre Kirk Patrick on Monday afternoon, per multiple reports.
Kirkpatrick, who spent the first eight seasons of his career with the Cincinnati Bengals, started 11 games in 14 appearances for the Arizona Cardinals in 2020, intercepting three passes.
Kirkpatrick has 13 interceptions for his career, as well as 72 pass breakups, and is known for using his big-bodied frame to his advantage both in the passing game, and in run defense.
The 49ers will now hope to get Kirkpatrick assimilated into the system before their Sunday matchup with Jalen Hurts, DeVonta Smith and the Philadelphia Eagles.
