49ers continue to reshape roster with free agency additions, losses

Following the initial frenzy of free agency, the 49ers have made more moves over the past few days.

While the team has lost players like defensive end Jordan Willis (Raiders) and safety Tarvarius Moore (Packers) in recent days, San Francisco has added players like offensive lineman Jon Feliciano, cornerback Isaiah Oliver and safety Myles Hartsfield, while also retaining tight end Ross Dwelley, linebacker Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles and defensive tackle T.Y. McGill.

While almost all of the moves have been confirmed by the team, Feliciano’s one-year agreement was first reported by Kim Jones of Newsday on Monday.

Feliciano is a versatile 31-year-old who played 15 games at center last season for the New York Giants but also has experience at both guard spots and a right tackle. With the departure of Daniel Brunskill to the Titans in free agency, Feliciano has the chance to step in as a jack-of-all-trades for the Niners, as Brunskill played in 58 percent of the 49ers’ snaps last year.

Oliver and Hartsfield join a revamped defensive backfield after the 49ers parted ways with safety/nickel back Jimmie Ward (Texans) and cornerback Emmanuel Moseley (Lions).

Cornerback Charvarius Ward, strong safety Talanoa Hufanga and free safety Tashaun Gipson are probably locked into their starting jobs for next season, but Oliver (two-year deal) and Hartsfield (one-year deal) are both versatile players who are in the mix for the open nickel back spot. Oliver could also compete for CB2 snaps with Deommodore Lenoir in training camp.

Dwelley (one-year deal) is a trusted member of the tight end room, while Flannigan-Fowles (one-year deal) has served as a solid backup behind the 49ers star linebacking corps the past couple of seasons. T.Y. McGill (one-year deal) could get more snaps with the recent losses from the 49ers defensive line.
