49ers drop second straight, search for answers defensively

The 49ers lost their second consecutive game Monday night falling in frustrating fashion to the Vikings 22-17 at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.

San Francisco allowed 452 total yards, 378 of those passing, and the Vikings converted 8-of-13 third downs while Brock Purdy threw two second half interceptions trying to lead the 49ers back from behind.

"I was real disappointed that we couldn't get them off the field," Kyle Shanahan told reporters after the game. "They had one punt today, we had one punt. They had one turnover, we had three turnovers. We had two more turnovers and it's a five point game. It's almost as simple as that."

The 49ers allowed a 60-yard touchdown reception late in the first half to Jordan Addison that put the Vikings up 16-7. Addison pulled the ball away from Charvarius Ward as Ward went to make a play on the ball for an interception. The 49ers ran an all out blitz on the play which left Ward in one-on-one coverage.

The 49ers pass rush continued to be lackluster with zero sacks and Kirk Cousins often having plenty of time to dice up the 49ers defense.

Nick Bosa was critical of himself in the aftermath.

Next up for the 49ers is a short week matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals at Levi's Stadium on Sunday. The Bengals (3-3) will becoming off their bye week having won two in a row after starting the season 1-3.
