49ers get massive injury boost in return to practice

The 49ers' season went sideways from the start when Christian McCaffrey went out before the opener. Now, it appears McCaffrey is nearing a return.

His Achilles tendonitis lingered for the first half of the season and sent McCaffrey to injured reserve, but now the All-Pro is back on the practice field. The 49ers opened both McCaffrey and offensive lineman Jon Feliciano's practice windows Monday afternoon. The window can remain open for 21 days. The team has within those 21 days to activate those players or revert them to injured reserve for the rest of the season.

McCaffrey was present on the practice field in the brief window that practice — an extra one, a bonus of the bye week — was open to media. So, too, were Jauan Jennings, who missed the last two weeks with a hip injury, and Jake Moody, who suffered a high ankle sprain against the Arizona Cardinals.

Official injury updates won't be provided until Wednesday, when Kyle Shanahan speaks to media.
