It's been a rough week for the 49ers. After a gut punch loss to the Seattle Seahawks, it's set up for a monumental matchup on the road with the Green Bay Packers.
But that task got massively tougher Friday. Kyle Shanahan ruled out both Brock Purdy and Nick Bosa for the matchup along with four other players.
Purdy's right shoulder was not expected to be a worrisome injury, Shanahan indicated. It tightened up against Seattle and hurt Monday, but MRIs were encouraging.
"I don't want to say there's long-term concern," Shanahan said. "We thought he just needed some rest. Really weren't concerned about him not being good this week, but when he started up Thursday, it surprised him, surprised us how it felt, so we had to shut him down."
That's not encouraging. Shanahan typically understates injury information with his quarterbacks. He also said that Purdy's status is "up in the air for next week."
So the 49ers are without Purdy, Bosa, as well as four other players:
Jacob Cowing (concussion)
Tatum Bethune (knee)
Kevin Givens (groin)
Charvarius Ward (personal)
Trent Williams (ankle) is also questionable, as is Jon Feliciano (knee).
The Packers, meanwhile, will be without star corner Jaire Alexander (knee) and linebacker Edgerrin Cooper (hamstring)
