An offseason that peaked with dreams of Deshaun Watson landing at Levi's Stadium has dipped, precipitously.
The 49ers, angling for depth at the quarterback position have been identified as "strong contenders" for Andy Dalton, according to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network. The Bears are also listed as suitor for Dalton.
Dalton would offer the 49ers a viable backup should Jimmy Garoppolo once again miss extended time in the season to come, but he's far from the franchise-changing QB that Watson would be, or even the reclamation project that Sam Darnold would represent. Stay tuned.
