The Trey Lance era is officially under way in San Francisco it could not be off to a better start.

The rookie quarterback threw his first career touchdown on his first career pass attempt to put the 49ers up 7-0 in the first quarter against the Detroit Lions on Sunday.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan was rotating in Lance with starter Jimmy Garoppolo for the series and put the rookie in a first-and-goal situation from the Detroit five-yard line.

Lance ran a play-action from the shotgun and turned to his left where he found fourth-year wide receiver Trent Sherfield wide open at the 3-yard line and connected with him for an easy touchdown.
