49ers sign veteran punter after Wishnowsky injury

There is a new punter coming to Santa Clara. Mitch Wishnowsky has been ailing for most of the season with a back issue, and it flared up Sunday. Kyle Shanahan said Monday that the 49ers would evaluate.
Per Paul Sheehy of ProStar Sports agency, the 49ers signed veteran punter Pat O'Donnell. The addition is likely to the practice squad, giving San Francisco some roster flexibility.
O'Donnell has been in the NFL since 2014, when he was drafted in the sixth round by the Chicago Bears. He played eight season in Chicago before joining the Green Bay Packers in 2022.
In a corresponding move, the 49ers released veteran defensive tackle T.Y. McGill from the practice squad. Shanahan will talk Wednesday and likely have an update on Wishnowsky.
