The 49ers are officially adding Marqise Lee to the mix, as first reported by Ian Rapoport of NFL Network and NFL.com.
Lee, who tried out for the team during the Niners' rookie minicamp, opted out of the 2020 season. The Patriots cut Lee in March. The wide receiver had spent the rest of his NFL time, 2014-2019, with the Jags.
After inking a four-year deal in 2018, Lee tore his ACL in the preseason and missed the remainder of the year. In 2019, Lee had just three receptions in six games.
Lee's best season came in 2016 when he hauled in 851 yards and a trio of touchdowns on 63 receptions.
The 49ers clipped wide receiver Austin Proehl to make room for Lee. Proehl had signed a Reserve/Future contract with the club in January.
