49ers to interview 3-time Pro Bowl corner for DB coach job [report]

The 49ers are continuing to look for additions to their coaching ranks. They've already brought Robert Saleh back as their defensive coordinator, with his former Jets colleague, Brant Boyer, joining as special teams coordinator.

But the additions may not be over. According to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, the 49ers will interview former Panthers assistant defensive backs coach DeAngelo Hall to potentially become their defensive backs coach.

Hall, 41, was a three-time Pro Bowler who spent the majority of his career with the Washington Commanders franchise. He played for Mike Shanahan and Kyle Shanahan from 2010-13 (and college ball with former 49ers assistant defensive line coach and current Commanders defensive line coach Darryl Tapp).

He spent last year as the Carolina Panthers' assistant defensive backs coach. He left the organization to pursue a sole position coach job, Garafolo reported.

One wrinkle here is that Daniel Bullocks, formerly the 49ers' safeties coach, was promoted to defensive passing game specialist/defensive backs coach this season. It's possible that if Hall is hired, Bullocks could move back to safeties while retaining the specialist title. The 49ers don't currently have a designated safeties coach.
