SAN FRANCISCO (95.7 The Game) - The San Francisco 49ers defense suffered a handful of impactful injuries in their Sunday preseason matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers, most notably to defensive lineman Maurice Hurst and linebacker Mychal Kendricks.
On Monday, head coach Kyle Shanahan updated the status of both players, noting that each of them would be out for an extended period of time due to their individual injuries.
“Any time you have an ankle and a toe, you’re looking at least a month so that’s something we’re definitely going to have to discuss today, how it plays out for the final roster spots, what we have to do to get through the next week or so," Shanahan said, via 49ersWebZone.com. "That stuff, we’ll end up discussing at the end of the day, and we’ll have to have a decision by tomorrow."
Hurst now begins his recovery from a high ankle sprain that he suffered on the fourth play from scrimmage on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Kendricks is ailing from a turf toe injury that he suffered during a routine special teams play.
