The 49ers-Vikings injury report is here and there are still plenty of questions left to be answered. Number one on the list: what's going on with Christian McCaffrey?
McCaffrey did not practice Friday after being limited for the previous five practices. Earlier in the week, national reporters Adam Schefter and Ian Rapoport of ESPN and NFL Network, respectively, reported it was unlikely McCaffrey would play Sunday in Minneapolis.
Kyle Shanahan ruled out McCaffrey for Sunday and said that he had his "worst day" Thursday with pain and discomfort. Injured reserve -- something Shanahan openly scoffed at on Wednesday -- is now something the 49ers are "considering."
That is a monumental shift. McCaffrey was expected to go in the season opener, then sat. It surprised many. Now, he's clearly suffered a setback and is in enough pain, with a precarious enough injury (Achilles tendinitis) to potentially go on IR. That's a wild shift. Here's the rest of the injury report from the 49ers:
Talanoa Hufanga is also listed as doubtful for Sunday's game as he progresses back from a torn ACL, while Dee Winters (ankle) is questionable. Yetur Gross-Matos (knee) is off the injury report and will make his debut, and both Aaron Banks (calf) and Jauan Jennings (ankle) are good to go.
Elsewhere, Kyle Shanahan said that Ricky Pearsall is back in the weight room and that he's starting to progress back from the injury.
Here's the injury report from the Vikings, who are down a star receiver:
OUT: WR Jordan Addison (ankle)
Questionable: G Ed Ingram (triceps), T Brian O'Neill (elbow), S Harrison Smith (hip)
