That is certainly a sentence.
Let's state that again, for clarity. Former Warriors general manager Bob Myers, who, has taken time off and also worked for ESPN since leaving Golden State, is joining the Washington Commanders as an advisor.
Per Adrian Wojnarowski, Myers and former Minnesota Vikings general manager Rick Spielman will join new Commanders owner Josh Harris' leadership group as advisors in their search for a new general manager and head coach.
And according to other reports, both the Commanders and Las Vegas Raiders have requested to interview 49ers assistant general manager Adam Peters for their head of football operations and general manager jobs, respectively.
On the coaching front, the Raiders are reportedly deciding between interim head coach Antonio Pierce, who led the team to a 6-5 record, and an outside candidate... potentially Jim Harbaugh, who reportedly wants a return to the NFL. Lots of familiar names and potential moves today.
Washington has already fired head coach Ron Rivera, but has not made an official decision on general manager Martin Mayhew and executive vice president of football/player personnel Marty Hurney. Those two will "be evaluated" by the new hire.
What would be especially interesting is if Washington were to hire Houston Texans offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik as their head coach with Myers hiring Peters, then Peters hiring Slowik.
Slowik was on that historic Washington staff in the early 2010s with current head coaches Kyle Shanahan, Sean McVay, Matt LaFleur and Mike McDaniel.
That's without mentioning the other incredible coaches on that team including head coach Mike Shanahan, legendary running backs coach Bobby Turner (with the 49ers), offensive line coach Chris Foerster (49ers O-line coach and run game coordinator) and defensive backs coach Raheem Morris (Rams defensive coordinator also in consideration for head coaching roles).
Mayhew, of course, was a former vice president of player personnel and someone that John Lynch has praised as a former teammate and front office partner. The 49ers received three compensatory third-round picks for his and Robert Saleh's simultaneous departure in the 2021 offseason. That final pick kicks in this offseason.
If Peters is not made uncomfortable by leapfrogging his former co-worker and potentially firing him, it could be an enticing option. That might mean nothing, but given their history, it has to be a factor - either a detriment or a draw, depending on the arrangement.
Peters and Mayhew were vice presidents of player personnel at the same time in San Francisco from 2019-20, and worked together the previous two seasons, when Mayhew was a senior personnel executive.
Both joined the 49ers in 2017, when Peters came over from the Denver Broncos and Mayhew left the New York Giants as director of football operations following seven years as GM of the Detroit Lions.
But as NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reports, Myers, 48, and Peters, 43, are also tight. Both went to UCLA. His initial, incorrect report about them attending the same high school was amended.
Myers went to Monte Vista in Danville. Peters went to Monta Vista in Cupertino. A couple mountain views... just on opposite sides of the Bay.
Peters has long been viewed as Lynch's right-hand man, and an integral part of the 49ers' front office. He has received past interest for general manager jobs, including from the New York Giants two years ago. He turned down interviews with both the Tennessee Titans and Arizona Cardinals last cycle.
While any position with the Commanders has been historically unappealing, Harris - the owner of the Philadelphia 76ersm New Jersey Devils, and now Commanders - has breathed life into the franchise.
The team still needs to find a franchise quarterback and a new stadium, but for the first time in decades, with new ownership and the No. 2 overall pick, it is an enticing destination.
