The time Christian McCaffrey's mom punched Jimmy G in an elevator

Christian McCaffrey carried himself in a very business-like tone for the three months Bay Area media got to interact with him this season.

The 49ers running back peeled back the onion a bit and had some fun on the latest episode of the “Your Mom” podcast, which is hosted by his mom, Lisa, and longtime Pac-12 Network host Ashley Adamson. CMC sat down for the fun chat during the Super Bowl week radio row madness and gave Lisa a hard time for being such a big-time celeb these days.

“Has it changed her? Has her overnight fame as a media star – has it changed her?,” Adamson asked.

“She’s changed. She’s different,” Christian said laughing. “The only time she’s texted me is to come on the show. Not a like, ‘Hey, how’s it going?’ Not at all. It’s all about her and the podcast. If I hear something else about, ‘The podcast …’ ridiculous. I’m happy I got 26 years with my mom. At some point, fame changes everyone, the bright lights change people. I’m just grateful for the 26 years I did have before the big change.”

The whole chat was entertaining with the McCaffreys, as Christian joked, “I need a cigarette before I listen just to calm myself down.”

Near the end of their talk, Christian relayed the story of the time Lisa punched Jimmy Garoppolo’s arm in an elevator.

“He comes up to me, like, ‘Dude, your mom is wild,’” Christian said. “I was, like, ‘Yeah, I know. You don’t gotta tell me that.’ … He’s hurt, he’s not playing in the game, and my mom gets in the elevator and she punches him, ‘Let’s f–king go! You f–king ready, man? Let’s f–king go!’ He’s not even playing and right before the game she punches him in the shoulder. He’s like sore the next day.”

“Was he mad?” Lisa asked.

“He wasn’t mad,” Christian said. “I think it just caught him off guard a little bit. Probably wasn’t a normal interaction with a teammate’s mom.”

Lisa, who played soccer collegiately at Stanford and is the matriarch of a football family, clearly still gets fired up on gamedays.

If you want more insight, Lisa McCaffrey and Adamson have already talked to other 49ers moms like Peggy Shanahan and Cheryl Bosa, along with Shirley Schefter, who did a joint interview with ESPN Insider Adam Schefter recently. No one can quite reveal your character like your mom.
