The 49ers finished the regular season allowing the lowest amount of points (16.3 per game) and yards (300.6) but finished two wins short of their goal.
The defense has lost players like defensive back Jimmie Ward, cornerback Emmanuel Moseley and linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair since last year, but the core of the unit is coming back.
