Giants making internal promotion for new GM [report]
The San Francisco Giants appear to have a new general manager, and that candidate will come from within the organization. According to multiple reports, the Giants' next GM is Zack Minasian Jr.
Minasian is the brother of Los Angeles Angels GM Perry Minasian, which marks the first time in MLB history there have been two brothers as simultaneous GMs.
The soon-to-be GM (who is the godson of Tommy Lasorda) was a Farhan Zaidi hire who rose to prominence at a relatively young age. He became the Milwaukee Brewers' professional scouting director when he was 27, the youngest in baseball. He spent 14 years there, working in a variety of roles before joining the Giants in 2019. In 2022, he was promoted to vice president of professional scouting.
It's a crucial hire given Buster Posey's lack of true scouting and executive experience. It would seem likely that Minasian handles much more of the actual day-to-day scouting and evaluation process.
