As expected, the Giants have ruled Saquon Barkley out for Thursday’s game against the 49ers.
The announcement came Wednesday afternoon, 24 hours after Brian Daboll surprised many by refusing to rule out the star running back for Week 3 just yet, but after reports of a three-week absence coming due to a sprained ankle, playing on a short week did not seem likely.
Barkley was helped off the field in the Giants Week 2 comeback win over the Cardinals, after logging a rushing and receiving touchdown on the day.
Big Blue has also ruled out Andrew Thomas, as he continues to deal with the hamstring injury he suffered in the season opener against the Cowboys.
Thomas represents a major loss up front against Nick Bosa and a potent San Francisco pass rush.
Now, the Giants are tasked with taking down one of the top teams in the NFC without two of their top offensive weapons.
