Greg Olsen is relatively new to the broadcasting scene, but it hasn’t taken him long to gain a reputation among some fanbases that he hates their team. Chief among them, 49ers fans.
Olsen and Kevin Burkhardt, FOX’s current No. 1 broadcast team, will call San Francisco’s game against the Packers on Saturday. Olsen already has called a few 49ers games this season, and in doing so has convinced some fans he has a vendetta against San Francisco.
Bonta Hill was raving about on Olsen’s ability during the former tight end’s appearance Thursday on The Morning Roast, to which Olsen responded that he gets the most grief from San Francisco.
“It’s funny, if I had to pick one fanbase that I hear from the most that thinks I don’t like them, I would have to say it’s San Francisco, and I can’t quite figure out (why),” Olsen said. “It’s very interesting, I swear. They don’t say they don’t like me on the games, they say I don’t like San Francisco, which couldn’t be further from the truth.
“We cheer for close games, but it’s also our job to criticize things that are wrong, and we’re going to praise both teams when they do things right. Just because this weekend we praise San Francisco doesn’t mean we’re cheering for them. Just because we talk about how great Jordan Love is doesn’t mean we're cheering against San Francisco. So, that’s kind of the nature of the beast.”
Olsen quickly has cemented himself as one of, if not the best analysts in the game right now. But even some of the most widely liked broadcasters can’t escape the belief from some fans that they have it out for their team.
