It's unknown how much time Ward will miss, but the team expects to have a clearer idea of his timetable after he undergoes surgery on Tuesday, head coach Kyle Shanahan said on Monday.

"It happened on the opening kickoff. He did it on the first kickoff, and in Jimmie Ward style, he just truly didn't want to accept that it was broken, so he stayed in there for the next play—a couple of plays. Then he finally realized it was [broken]. ... It's just unfortunate. Hopefully, the surgery will go well, and he'll be able to come back and help us. It's just a bad break that he got," Shanahan said, via 49ers Webzone.

Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area also reported that the 49ers will wait to see if Ward can play with a cast on his hand.

Shanahan also confirmed ESPN's report that cornerback Emmanuel Moseley suffered a torn ACL and is out for the season.

As for defensive end Nick Bosa, who was dealing with a groin injury, Shanahan said they'll "re-evaluate him on Wednesday," the first day of practice.

Kicker Robbie Gould has some swelling in his knee after he made a tackle on special teams in the third quarter on Sunday. Gould never returned, and Shanahan said they'll work out some kickers on Tuesday in case he's unable to kick this weekend against the Falcons.
