Jimmy Garoppolo brushes off criticism, says 'I'm a winner'

Jimmy Garoppolo is tuning out the noise. Even if that noise comes from 95.7 The Game.

On Monday, “Damon & Ratto” host Damon Bruce started up a 49ers firestorm on social media when he said he’d rather the 49ers lose with Trey Lance than win with Jimmy G. On Wednesday, Bruce and co-host Ray Ratto interviewed the 49ers quarterback about all the outside pressure and criticism. Listen to the full interview below:

“There’s a number of different words [for it],” Garoppolo said. “At the end of the day, the noise is going on, all these people are saying whatever. At the end of the day, I’m a winner. I’m going out there to win the game. Whatever that takes, I’m going to do it.”

Garoppolo led the 49ers (3-4) to a 33-22 win over the Chicago Bears and made his case for being the team’s quarterback of the now.

“Overall, I’m doing great,” Garoppolo said. “I’m in a good spot mentally, physically. I’m where I want to be.”

Second-year wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk had his best game Sunday for Garoppolo and the Niners and it coincided with a 49ers victory. Aiyuk matched or set season highs with four catches on seven targets for 45 yards after a slow start to his sophomore season.

Garoppolo gave his thoughts on whether or not Aiyuk was in the “dog house” of coach Kyle Shanahan to start the year.

“I wouldn’t call it the doghouse,” Garoppolo said. “He was just finding his way I guess you could say. His role wasn’t completely defined yet. It was a lengthy process but we’ve gotten to a good point.”

Garoppolo also said that he didn’t hear from the 49ers office on Tuesday as the NFL trade deadline approached and passed.

“I was ready for anything,” Garoppolo said. “Nothing came from that in the trade talks. Nothing happened yesterday. But I’ve been around this league for a little while. You always have to be on your toes ready for anything.”
