John Lynch dismisses rumors that he's leaving 49ers for TV

A day after former NFL quarterback and current broadcaster Boomer Esiason speculated on Audacy Sports' WEEI that John Lynch could be headed to the TV booth, the 49ers general manager quashed the rumors.

During his season wrap up press conference Tuesday, Lynch said he remains fully committed to the 49ers.

“I have not heard that,” Lynch said of the TV rumor. “From time to time, opportunities are presented. I can tell you and tell everyone that my commitment right now is this organization. We’re just coming off a season, but my commitment is to the 49ers, the York family, [coach] Kyle [Shanahan]."

Here's what Esiason had to say, for context:

"The other thing to watch there is, what happens with John Lynch," Esiason said. "I wouldn't be surprised if John goes back into television anytime soon. He's had a really good run there and has a lot of quality front office people. I think he may be tired of doing what he's doing, too. That's something to watch in the offseason as well."

Lynch served as a broadcaster for FOX in the past, but he figures to have a busy offseason. Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo will likely be a valuable trade chip and the team is trying to figure out extensions for Deebo Samuel and Nick Bosa, home run draft picks from 2019.

The 49ers look like they have a good thing going after reaching their second NFC Championship in three years.

“Standing up in front of that team yesterday, getting an opportunity to reflect on what we have, I think we have something special,” Lynch said. “We’re here to win championships. … Feel like it’s a really blessing to be part of this organization. My commitment is right here. That’s where I’ll be.”
