The 49ers lost 40-34 to the Detroit Lions Monday night, in a game that could have been won if kicker Jake Moody made the three kicks he missed. In the final two minutes, Brock Purdy left the game after being sacked, with a player landing on his right arm.
Purdy was examined on the sideline by team doctors, tried to throw the ball, shook his head negatively, and then remained on the sidelines.
Kyle Shanahan said after the game that it was a nerve injury in Purdy's right elbow and that the 49ers might have imagine done on it, with more information possible tomorrow.
Shanahan, prematurely, did not expect the injury to be a long-term one.
“I wouldn’t think so," Shanahan said. "I mean I'm just speculating right now. I know everyone, when they hear about Brock's elbow, just like me, you think of the elbow injury from a couple years ago. But just talking to doctors, he just got hit in the right spot and when you get hit there, your nerves go and you can't feel much, but hopefully it'll be alright."
UPDATE: After having testing done, the result was as Shanahan anticipated after the game.
Purdy had a right elbow contusion with nerve inflammation, but there is no long-term concern with the injury. He is unlikely to play in the final game of the season against the Arizona Cardinals, but there is no worry beyond that. Shanahan said the 49ers have yet to decide who will start against Arizona.
