Matt Barrows breaks down what 49ers need to make Super Bowl run
The 49ers are 3-3 with two monumental games ahead of them before a midseason bye week. Sunday features the boogeymen Kansas City Chiefs coming to town.
Matt Barrows of The Athletic joined Steiny and Guru Monday afternoon to discuss where the 49ers are at. He was asked where he thinks the 49ers are headed and what they need to do to get back on the Super Bowl path.
"I feel like they need to be around .500, maybe a little bit more," Barrows said. "You could probably be even less. And then a lot of things have to go right in the second half of the season for them. Christian McCaffrey has to come back. Dre Greenlaw has to come back. I mean, those are two big pieces. We just got word today that maybe Jon Feliciano is coming back. He could be an answer at center if they have problems there.
"My point is that this could be a different team in the second half of the season than the one in the first half, and it would make for an entirely different year than 2023 was... but the pieces are there, the formula is there. You can see that happening. Of course, it does require Christian McCaffrey not to have a setback and for Dre Greenlaw to come back at a fairly reasonable time. Because they can't keep doing the get a game, lose a game for very much longer. They have to get hot at some point."
