How many eggs do you put in your omelette?
If you’re Nick Bosa, you put in SIX. Plus two more egg whites. And onions and broccoli and kale. No cheese, though.
Bosa isn’t a beast by accident. His mom, Cheryl, joined 95.7 The Game’s “Willard & Dibs” and shared details about her son’s workout regimen and diet during his six-week holdout, which was ended with a record-setting five-year extension agreement Wednesday.
"Physically, he's a specimen,” Cheryl Bosa said. “Literally, he's in better shape than he's ever been in his life. He's faster than he was, he's stronger than he was last year if you can imagine. That's all fact."
Sure, mom might be biased, but there’s no reason to believe Bosa won’t be in elite shape for Sunday’s season opener in Pittsburgh.
According to Cheryl, Nick and his father, John, have been working out in Florida together the past two weeks since Joey Bosa’s trainer left for Los Angeles. Since then, the Bosas have been going through the same routine – Nick and Dad do conditioning before Mom cooks up a huge omelette, then Nick and Dad go out to lift before coming back home to Mom’s for dinner.
“We kept doing the routine, but it was a little more stressful every single day,” Cheryl Bosa said. “I’m very happy not to be cooking breakfast for him tomorrow morning.”
The Bosas had 170 million reasons to celebrate Wednesday, so dinner was a special occasion. Cheryl cooked up a wagyu steak for Nick before he left for the airport around 5 p.m. eastern time, when the 49ers were in the middle of their practice session.
“I did get him a bottle of champagne,” Cheryl Bosa said. “But he said, ‘No, I don’t think I’m gonna have that.’”
Nick Bosa figures to be in Santa Clara by the time the team practices on Thursday at 1 p.m. PT. His agreement comes about three years after his older brother, Joey, set an NFL defensive player record with $102 million guaranteed – as part of his five-year, $135 million pact with the Chargers.
It’s a good time to be Bosa.
“I’ve never seen anyone work harder than my boys,” Cheryl Bosa said. “And Nick – Nick’s a phenom. He really is. He’s not gonna rest on his laurels. You’re not gonna have this kid who gets his contract and comes and skips around. I don’t think Defensive Player of the Year is done for him by any stretch.”
