Odell Beckham Jr.’s Rams tenure began on Monday night with the wide receiver tackling 49ers safety Jimmie Ward after an interception early in the first quarter.
Following the game, a 31-10 49ers victory, Ward could not help but think about how he is looking forward to returning the favor to Beckham.
“I was just thinking about how Odell came and hit me,” Ward said, per ProFootballTalk. “How I’m going to have to pay him back next time I see him. I’ve been waiting a long time to hit him, so hopefully I can catch him.”
Ward was the star for the 49ers in Monday night’s game against the Rams, picking off Matthew Stafford twice on the first two Rams’ possessions of the game, including a 27-yard interception returned for a touchdown.
The interception where Beckham tackled him came on a broken play in which Stafford heaved the ball deep down field hoping Beckham would be there. Instead, it was Ward who caught the ball before being taken down by the wide receiver, whom the safety said he respects.

Beckham was targeted just two more times throughout the game, catching both passes for 18 yards.
The Rams and 49ers do not meet again until Week 18, which could potentially have Los Angeles fighting for the division or a bye while the Niners could be potentially playing for their playoff lives.
Whatever the stakes may be, Beckham will have to keep his head on a swivel when entering Ward’s territory.
