As Kyle Shanahan drove home from the 49ers stadium Sunday following Trey Lance’s season-ending injury, the 49ers coach spoke with longtime NFL reporter Peter King.
King detailed the conversation in his latest column for “Football Morning in America” before hopping on with 95.7 The Game's “Damon & Ratto” for his weekly appearance Tuesday. While some are quick to blame Shanahan for putting Lance in harm’s way with designed runs, King isn’t buying that criticism. Check out the full conversation below:
“Listen, this is gonna be, perhaps, a little bit knee-jerk, a little bit reactionary,” King told hosts Damon Bruce and Ray Ratto. “Personally, I think it’s idiotic to take the call that was made and use that to blame the injury on. One of the reasons that this team drafted Trey Lance is that he’s got great ability to run with the ball. He’s a mobile quarterback. Was anybody questioning the call that the Baltimore Ravens made when Lamar Jackson ran for whatever it was (79-yard touchdown) the other day? No.”
