Tevin Coleman is looking a a long layoff, head coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed on Wednesday morning, via Zoom, as the team preps for a return engagement at MetLife at The Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia.

Shanahan added that Coleman would likely be placed on IR.

The 49ers also will be without star running back Raheem Mostert on Sunday against the Giants, but on Tuesday morning the club got what qualifies as encouraging news regarding the running back's MCL sprain.

With Mostert and Coleman shelved, the 49ers' top options in the back field will be Jerick McKinnon and Jeff Wilson Jr. for Sunday's meeting with the 0-2 Giants.
