Shanahan says losing streak doesn't change anything for 49ers at trade deadline

The NFL trade deadline comes at 1:00 p.m. PT on Tuesday and with the 49ers suddenly reeling after three straight losses, all eyes will be on Santa Clara to see if the 49ers can pull off a deal to add to a team with Super Bowl aspirations.

Kyle Shanahan did his best to tamp down the possibility of the 49ers making a big move during his postgame press conference on Sunday.

“None of this changes anything with the trade deadline, how we played today or how we played these last three weeks," Shanahan told reporters after the game.

"I do believe we have the answers in our building. I believe we have good players. I believe we have good coaches.”

Still, the 49ers look like a team in need of a boost at multiple positions. They could use and edge rusher to put on the opposite side of Nick Bosa and improve what has been a team incapable of sacking the quarterback through eight games.

They could also use an outside corner that could play opposite Charvarius Ward and allow Deommodore Lenoir to move inside to nickel corner, which has been a problematic spot for the 49ers this season.

The 49ers have not been averse to deadline additions in the Shanahan/Lynch era. Last season they added Christian McCaffrey at the traded deadline and won 12-straight games after his acquisition. In 2019, they added wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders who helped them to a Super Bowl appearance. And in 2017 they added Jimmy Garoppolo at the deadline who became the 49ers franchise quarterback for the next five years.
