Kyle Shanahan provides McCaffrey, Warner updates, says 1 return near
The 49ers have a litany of injuries, and Kyle Shanahan offered a laundry list of updates Monday afternoon.
He also confirmed that Christian McCaffrey's Achilles tendonitis is not limited to one leg. That's a new development.
“No, during the time he’s had it in both," Shanahan said. "I think it started in one, you overcompensate, it went to the other. But mainly one of them has just been bothering him, but he’s had it in both.”
The wait goes on to see just exactly when McCaffrey will return.
Just about everywhere else, the 49ers are day to day. That's a massive sigh of relief on the Fred Warner front. The star linebacker, currently playing at a Defensive Player of the Year level, left with an ankle injury.
Shanahan confirmed that Warner is day-to-day, along with wide receiver Jacob Cowing (shoulder), defensive tackle Jordan Elliot (knee), George Kittle (ribs), Chris Conley (oblique) and Kyle Juszczyk (shoulder).
He indicated Warner avoided a high ankle sprain and "has a chance to heal up this week."
While Shanahan said he wasn't sure whether Ricky Pearsall would return this week, he was very clear and optimistic on defensive tackle Kalia Davis.
"He is close," Shanahan said. "There's a good chance we open his window this week. I'd be surprised if it's not open for Wednesday's practice.”
