More like, “Hey now! You’re a Pro Bowler! Get your game on, go plaaaaay!”

Smash Mouth, the hit 1990s rock band whose popularity has been buoyed by its inclusion in the “Shrek” movie franchise official soundtracks, is apparently delving into the field of NFL film study. In a Twitter exchange Tuesday with Sports Illustrated’s Grant Cohn, the official Smash Mouth account broke down film of a Trey Lance play from last season.

Apparently, the San Jose-based band isn’t sold on the young quarterback’s decision-making.

This isn’t the first time Smash Mouth has weighed in on their hometown 49ers. Back in 2016, the band fiercely defended embattled general manager Trent Baalke.

Smash Mouth also had some strong takes on the QB draft class of 2021:

Somebody once told me that Jimmy Garoppolo would be gone from the 49ers by next season. Oh yeah, that was Jimmy G himself, who told 49ers fans, “It's been a hell of a ride” in his season wrap-up press conference a few weeks ago. When you think about this stuff long enough, your brain gets smart but your head gets dumb.

Unless the front office has been able to keep news of a trade from leaking to the media, Garoppolo and his surgically-repaired shoulder will likely still be on the team’s roster when free agency opens at 1 p.m. PT Wednesday. The trade market appears to be shrinking for Garoppolo, increasing the chances of an awkward and expensive reunion with Lance and the 49ers in 2022. It sounds like Smash Mouth would be on Team Jimmy G in such a scenario.

There’s still six months between now and Week 1, but the NFL league years start coming and they don't stop coming, fed to the rules and they’ll hit the ground running Wednesday.
