Steve Young details how 49ers should build around Brock Purdy

Friday afternoon came with a surprise guest for Mark Willard's 50th birthday. The legendary Steve Young hopped on the line to wish Willard a happy birthday, and eventually waded into the 49ers analysis waters.

He was asked generally about Brock Purdy, and said the 49ers need to get him help.

"Brock, I've said this 1000 times, his superpower is processing," Young said. "And he can process better than almost any of them. I would put him up against anybody, but he's not going to be running around like Jaden Daniels so he needs to figure out ways to make up for that. And some of those ways, if you're a great processor is, give me more opportunities coming out of the huddle, the play that's called that are open, guys that are open because I can process and find them."

While Young believes the 49ers need to add to their roster, he also believes Kyle Shanahan can use Purdy better. He proposed the use of run-pass options to maximize him.

"I believe so. I said during the season a couple of times, I think Kyle should call our RPOs for Brock," Young said. 'We should put him on the run out of the huddle where he's going to carry it. The threat that he needs to bring look, we understand the processing power, but that's the game today."

Young said that teams "have to threaten the line of scrimmage," and that the teams competing for a Super Bowl have quarterbacks and game plans that do that.
