Ted Nguyen: Brock Purdy is better this year than the last 2 year
The 49ers offense has not come close to reaching the heights of the past three seasons. It is riddled with inconsistencies. But where does that blame go?
Obviously, some of it lies on the quarterback. But the 49ers' aging skill position group, the loss of Brandon Aiyuk, and failures on offense line are all clear issues. It begs the question of whether Brock Purdy is better this year than he has been the last two.
Ted Nguyen of The Athletic, who is among the best film analysts in the business, thinks Purdy is better. Joe Shasky asked him if Purdy is having a good year. Here's what Nguyen said.
"That's a difficult question because I actually think Brock Purdy is a better player," Nguyen said. "He's an improved player. You see that in some of his metrics. His air yards per target is way up. And overall, he just seems like a better player at using his legs and throwing the ball downfield more. I think he's not putting up those explosive touchdown numbers that we're used to seeing and we're seeing a few more interceptions. So I don't think numbers always tell the full story, but I do believe Brock Purdy is a better player than he was the last two years."
He also broke down the other issues going on with the 49ers offense and named one area that Kyle Shanahan can amend the scheme.
