The Niners came oh so close to winning — they had four chances to do push ahead, from the Raven’s seven-yard line. The final three plays were all incompletions from Colin Kaepernick.
The letdown, most notably head coach Jim Harbaugh’s play calling, still haunts Boone.
“I’m going to be honest with you. I’m not one to believe that a player should ever go against a coach, I still think that those weren’t the right calls that we made, obviously,” Boone said on 95.7 The Game.
“I mean, we were first-and-goal on the five-yard line with like two minutes left and we threw the ball four times when that year we had rushed so well and just dominated people in the rush game. But, it was heartbreaking.”
“And I mean that. It was the hardest feeling in the world because we had our opportunity. We should have won what we did all year and we would have been fine. All the sudden you look back and you’re like, ‘We blew it.’”
“You look back on the rest of your career and you think how aggravating (it is) because you try so hard every year to get there and then you get there and we kind of crumbled a little bit. It was so frustrating.”
