Alex Rodriguez and Barry Bonds are two of the greatest hitters of all time.

Bonds is MLB’s home run king with 762 career homers, although that is contested by some due to his steroid usage.

Rodriguez, whose 696 career home runs ranks fifth all-time, has been under fire for the same thing throughout his career and was suspended for the entire 2014 season.

Appearing on Audacy’s “The Bret Boone Podcast” this week, Boone and Rodriguez spoke highly of Bonds after the former Giants outfielder’s spot on ESPN’s “KayRod Cast” recently.

“I played against him. You played. We all know. He was ridiculous how good he was” Boone said (35:30 in player above). “I really loved that interview. It was real. Barry told it how it was. He told you he was the greatest because he was.”

By the numbers, Bonds is one of the greatest baseball players of all time, if not the greatest.

Bonds won seven MVP awards, including four straight from 2001 to 2004, was a 14-time All-Star, and even won two batting titles in his career.

And Bonds knows how great he was, which reminded Boone of another GOAT: Michael Jordan.

“It was kind of like when I watched ‘The Last Dance’. He’s not arrogant; it’s the truth what he’s saying right now,” Boone continued. “When Barry speaks about hitting for that timeframe in history, what he says is true. I remember just being out there putting up pretty big numbers and watching Barry hit and going ‘He’s so much better than me it’s ridiculous.’”

While the league turned a blind eye to the steroid era, players were putting up big numbers. Some believe that those players should be celebrated for that rather than dancing around the subject.

“He’s a great interview. He’s a great friend,” Rodriguez said. “He’s a very much underutilized asset that baseball needs to use more.”
