The Giants seemingly had a golden opportunity this past weekend, as they rolled into Denver to face the last-place Colorado Rockies (56-94) with a chance to stake a claim in the National League Wild Card Race. Hmmm … about that.

The Rockies ended up taking three out of four games in the series, which was salvaged by an 11-10 Giants victory in the finale on Sunday. On the latest episode of Audacy Sports' “Garlic Fries & Baseball Guys” podcast, hosts Joe Shasky and Sam Lubman discuss the missed opportunity, as the Giants (76-74) entered play Tuesday two games out of the final Wild Card spot.

“It was a deflating series,” Shasky said. “There’s no other way around it. It’s hard to face the reality of where they’re at currently. I know they’ve been hanging with this, ‘Playoffs! Playoffs! Playoffs!’ and I understand that. The whole time, I understand the merit and I understand the excitement of the playoffs. But I just look at the big picture and it’s like – how can you take a team seriously that’s fighting for a playoff spot and loses to that Colorado team?”
