Gary Sanchez has reportedly found a new team just after Opening Day.
According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the former Yankee catcher has signed a minor league deal with the Giants, who just opened their season with a loss to the Yanks in their season opener.
Per Rosenthal, Sanchez will report to San Francisco’s spring training camp in Arizona before joining one of their minor league teams. The deal reportedly includes an opt out if he is not promoted to the major leagues by May 1.
Sanchez spent the first seven years of his career with the Yankees before he was traded to the Twins prior to the start of the 2022 season, included in the deal that brought Isiah Kiner-Falefa and Josh Donaldson to New York. In his lone year with Minnesota, Sanchez posted a .659 OPS with 16 home runs in 128 games.
The 29-year-old looked like a star in the making when he burst onto the scene in 2016, finishing second in the Rookie of the Year voting despite playing just 53 games that season. he was an All-Star and even received some MVP votes in 2017, his first full big-league season, but he fell off drastically at the plate in the following years, as he also worked to alter his catching stance in an effort to cut back on passed balls.
