A couple of former Giants will be back under the bright lights in 2022.
MLB Network announced Wednesday morning that former San Francisco fan favorite Hunter Pence and pitcher Jake Peavy will join their team as on-air analysts for the upcoming season. The pair joins former catcher Alex Avila and former outfielder Cameron Maybin as new contributors for MLB Network in 2022.
Peavy wrapped up his career with the Giants and helped them win the 2014 World Series and is well-regarded in The Bay. But Pence occupies a special place in the hearts of Giants fans due to his unique and goofy personality.
From 2013-2018 Pence roamed around right field in San Francisco and sacrificed his body with his all-out style of play. Off the field, he became known for his passionate and funny press conference comments while becoming a Twitch and social media star with his wife Alexis.
Pence is clearly beloved around baseball, too. Back in 2014, Mets fans started making funny signs with barbs like “Hunter Pence eats pizza with a fork” or "Hunter Pence puts ketchup on his hot dog" and it caught on like wildfire at other MLB stadiums whenever the Giants were in town.
Peavy played with a lot of intensity (and the occasional F bomb) but is more known for his laid-back southern personality and should provide a nice contrast to Pence’s energetic presence.
