After finishing off the sweep of the St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday, the Giants are feeling pretty good these days.
Last week, 95.7 The Game’s Sam Lubman interviewed Logan Webb about the good vibes in the clubhouse and the synergy between the pitching staff and lineup. Check out the full "Garlic Fries & Baseball Guys" podcast interview here:
“We actually haven’t hit that many home runs in the last month – which is not normal for us, we hit a lot of home runs – and we’re still winning baseball games,” Webb said. “I think we got a winning record since the beginning of May. It shows we’re not just a one-dimensional team. We all trust each other. As pitchers … it’s always good to have confidence in them and I think this is a confident group in itself.”
The Giants are also riding high on their wave of young talent coming up through the ranks – players like infielder Casey Schmitt, catcher Patrick Bailey and outfielder Luis Matos. After Wednesday’s win, the Giants now hold the third and final Wild Card spot in the National League.
Webb, the Giants opening day starter, is doing his part by leading MLB with 91 1/3 innings pitched so far with a 3.15 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and an impressive 91-to-17 strikeout ratio. It appears San Francisco might be a buyer at the deadline to try and make it back to the playoffs after last year’s 81-81 finish.
For now, Webb has complete confidence that the Giants have the right guys in the clubhouse, but don’t be surprised if they get a boost in the next few weeks before the trade deadline on Aug. 1.
