MLB commissioner Rob Manfred was feeling the heat from fans and players on Tuesday after he announced that the first two series of the regular season would be cancelled as the players and owners failed to agree on a deal to effectively end the lockout.
Manfred held a press conference in Florida shortly after spending all day and late into the previous night negotiating as the two sides tried to reach a deal without losing any games.
Unfortunately, that was not the case, and as Manfred took the podium to officially announce that the first week of games would not happen, he occasionally flashed a smile and even laughed.
While he was not laughing specifically at the prospect of canceling games, his demeanor certainly rubbed many fans and players the wrong way.
Particularly Chicago Cubs pitcher Marcus Stroman, who fired off a series of tweets, including one calling for the commissioner’s job.
Meanwhile, fans and media also did not seem to appreciate the commissioner’s demeanor during the press conference.
