The Bay Area has basked in success and competitive teams, in some rotation, since 2010. But there have also been some monumental draft whiffs. Each major team has had one top selection result in monumental failure.
The Warriors took James Wiseman second overall in 2020. The 49ers took Trey Lance third overall in 2021. The Giants took Joey Bart second overall in 2020. Bart became the third certified bust Sunday, when the Giants designated him for assignment.
With that in mind, Steiny and Guru discussed those high-profile whiffs, and where they rank.
"I gotta go with Trey Lance," Guru said. "You moved up in the draft, you spent capital to get this guy, and he gave you five starts."
Steiny agreed, saying that the biggest organizational mistake was by the 49ers, moving up and selecting Lance.
