If there was one play Thursday night that could’ve summed up the Giants’ season coming into Thursday night, it was this: Daniel Jones’ 80-yard run that wasn’t a score thanks only to Lincy, the name we’re giving to the "turf monster" at Lincoln Financial Field.
Jones saw the defense had just one defensive back on the near side, so he took the ball on a keeper, got a seal block from Evan Engram on that side, and took off three-quarters of the way down the field. Per NFL NextGenStats, Jones reached 21.23 MPH on the run, the fastest top speed for a QB since 2018.
And then, he tripped, and a lengthy touchdown run was all for naught. Story of the season, right? Seemed to be, as the Giants looked like they’d have to settle for a field goal…but a pass interference call in the end zone on third down gave them new life, and Wayne Gallman trucked one in for a 14-10 lead in a game where Jones nearly doubled the Giants’ yardage total on that one run.
