A security guard went down with an apparent injury after tracking down one of two fans who ran onto the field at the same time during Wednesday's Rockies-Padres games at Petco Park in San Diego.

The strange scene unfolded in the top of the eighth inning, when the unidentified guard corralled the unruly fan against a low-lying wall along the third-base line, after pursuing him in shallow left field for several moments. A wire photo showed the disruptive fan snapping a selfie as he sprinted across the field.

The guard looked to deliver a hockey-style body check on the fan against the wall, with both going down in a heap before they were swarmed by additional guards. The fan was hauled off -- as was another one who was detained on the other side of the field, in shallow right. The guard briefly stood up before stumbling down on the foul line, and remained down in obvious pain. He seemed to gesture to one of his legs.

There was no update on the guard's status after the game.

The incident marks the latest in a string of ugly incidents involving fans, who have been permitted back in ballparks after they were closed to spectators throughout 2020 due to the pandemic.

Last week, a Padres fan slugged a Rockies fan at a game in Denver, seemingly knocking the man out with a single punch. The fan who absorbed the punch reportedly declined to press charges. On Tuesday, not one but two fans ran on the field at a Marlins-Phillies game in Philadelphia, in two separate incidents.
