(SportsRadio 610) -- With the uncertainty surrounding Deshaun Watson's future with the Texans, focus is shifting to who is best to replace him.

As general manager Nick Caserio explained earlier this month, Watson was the only quarterback on the roster after Josh McCown's retirement.

Caserio needed to address the position, regardless of Watson's situation, which has evolved since the GM's hiring in January.

The Texans went from dealing with a trade request from their franchise quarterback, to not even being sure of his playing status given the investigations into sexual assault allegations from more than 20 women.

Insert veteran Tyrod Taylor into the mix, and the Texans might have found their starter.

Texans color analyst Andre Ware joined Payne & Pendergast on Monday morning and spoke about what he believes Taylor brings to the table.

"I think he brings a tremendous amount of leadership, experience, playmaking ability. Tyrod, it's just been unfortunate, wherever he's gone there's been a younger quarterback to come along and I don't think that's going to be the case in year 1 with the Texans if he were indeed named the starting quarterback. The guy can make plays, so you're excited about what he brings, where he's been, how he's played in his previous stops and just a tremendous amount of experience and playmaking ability.

"So I think the Texans will be in good hands if that's indeed the case going into 2021."

Taylor was the Buffalo Bills' full-time starter from 2015-2017, earning Pro Bowl honors in his first season there. He then went on to the Cleveland Browns, where he was quickly supplanted by Baker Mayfield; backed up Philip Rivers for the Chargers in 2019; then lost the job to rookie Justin Herbert after a bizarre medical procedure in which a team doctor accidentally punctured his lung.

The Texans could still be in the market for a quarterback in the NFL Draft this week, but barring something drastic, Taylor is likely the No. 1.
