(SportsRadio 610) - What had been reported earlier in the week about the Texans' offseason quarterback pursuit was essentially confirmed by their new offensive coordinator.
The Texans are, in fact, considering veteran quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, who spent time in San Francisco with Houston's new head coach DeMeco Ryans and offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik. Texans general manager Nick Caserio also has familiarity with Garoppolo from their New England Patriots days.
Here is what Slowik said at his introductory press conference Wednesday when asked about Garoppolo.
"We have a process in everything we go through and that’s roster construction as far as free agency, as far as guys we already have here, as far as the draft. Everything together, we have a process we go through. Jimmy (Garoppolo) is obviously part of that process. He’s going to be a free agent. We grind through that as a coaching staff. We grind through that in the personnel department. We have conversations. I’ve had conversations with Nick (Caserio). He has conversations with DeMeco (Ryans). Then, Nick and DeMeco put their heads together and lay out a plan of what we want to do going forward and we’ll see where that takes us."
In The Loop's Landry Locker is warming up to this idea, conceding that some team is going to trade up to No. 1 overall and draft Bryce Young with the top pick, leaving the Texans with the next-best QB. The Texans could trade back, get more draft assets, continue building the team and find the quarterback later.
